Neither of us had been to Playa del Carmen before, and we liked it. It’s totally a tourism-based town, but the laid-back vibe around the beach and the good weather were wonderful. You can’t walk 4 steps without someone trying to sell you drugs, so that part was annoying, but we liked the city overall.
We flew from Mexico City on Viva Aerobus, and it was a free-for-all.
Walking through a nearby park, we liked the Christmas decorations and Santa’s modes of travel.
There’s an all-vegan 50s diner, and it was incredible. We went back the next day, as well.
We laid around relaxing a lot by the pool and on the beach. We tried snorkeling on the beach nearby, and there was NOTHING to see. We saw 1 teeny tiny little fish. That’s it.
Without a real plan, we liked walking along the main street and just looking around.
Our hotel had free bicycles to use, so the next day we rode down to a vegan cafe located near a bakery that’s mostly vegan.
My tacos were delicious, and then we bought some desserts and bread to take back to our hotel.
That night, back to the 50s diner.
Everything we had there was incredible. 11/10 rating.
We passed the library on the way back, which had these cool book-shaped/book-themed benches outside.
Playa del Carmen is a cool area. It was full of Americans not using masks, which was annoying. The locals and visitors from other places were all using them. Despite not really having a plan and just lazing around a lot, we liked the city. It was a good 4 days.
