If you want to visit a city that has no ‘vibe’ other than just “Hey, look at our money!” then Dubai is the place for you.
We didn’t like it.
I flew to Dubai for a 4-day weekend at the end of May, 2014, and it’s a city I have no desire to ever visit again. Other than shopping and trying to be ‘richer than you’, there’s nothing to do here.
Sure, you can go snowboarding or sledding inside a mall, but that’s a 1-hour gimmick. The museum was OK but not great.
The only 2 experiences we liked were the ‘desert adventure’ where we went dune bashing (AKA a guy drives an SUV like crazy in the desert, and you constantly think you’re going to tip over, but he actually knows what he’s doing) and then rode 4-wheelers around in the dunes. That was super fun.
The other cool experience was going to the lookout deck of the Burj Khalifa on our last night, which is the world’s tallest building. Intense views out over the city. Make sure to book tickets online in advance.
I wasn’t crazy about Dubai, and I honestly can’t understand why anyone would make a 2nd trip here. Go practically anywhere else.
